Amid Rising Antisemitism: My Communications with Antisemitic Holocaust Denier Travis Patron

To my personal experience with this disgrace of a person, and with futher experience today studying in university I will share the communications Travis Patron and myself had in 2020 via mail. To read further on this issue, I will attach some links at the end of this blog. Please do keep in mind as reminder, this is post and blog website is strictly for education purposes.

To my frequent viewers, I apologize for the long delay in posts. I have been drowned in assignments, reports, essays, tests, and exams since September of this year. I hope next term, when I am a bit more free, this will not be the case. Other than this, I hope you enjoy reading this post.

Background Information

THIS IS SHARED, SHOWN AND EXPLAINED STRICTLY FOR EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES - NOTHING ELSE.

2020, the year I graduated secondary school, soon after moving onto post-secondary school. Between the years of 2018 - 2019, my interests in antisemitism, the Holocaust, and the Second World War expanded. My influences to study such events in post-secondary, due to my trip to Europe in 2019 when I visted a concentration camp. I remember vividly, I was reading news articles and studying these topics daily, I was so invested in learning more, thus the reason I am studying it now as explained.

In 2020, I came across, Travis Patron affiliated with the Canadian Nationalist Party located in Saskatchewan. When I tell you I was mind blown and shocked to my discovery of such strong and oblivious hatred being shared through newspapers, social media accounts, and their political party. Obviously not as educated on antisemitism as I am today, 2020 me was terrified to see this propaganda. I thought to myself, the Second World War has passed, but this is still happening in political parties? How? But what I didn't fully understand at that point, was how deeply widespread hatred against Jews was worldwide.

This year, I have been able to study very deeply into antisemitism. Learning it's origins in the Greco-Roman World, it's heightened period in the Christian Era, then onto Eastern Europe and Russia, The Second World War, and of course what we have as result today. The blame has always been on the Jews through these eras, and though many of the conspiracy theories made up today are just absolute nonsense, people believe them. Why? Unfortuntaly I'm not a psychologist, but to my understandings in studying antisemitism for more than 6 years, it's possibly related to the romantic-counter placed on antisemitism. No one could doubt over the past year, antisemitism hasn't been on the rise. It's as dangerous if not MORE dangerous today for the Jewish community than it ever has been, especially with the help of social media today. People and their theories spread like wildfire, and with absolutly no truth of such lies, people portray Jews as millions of things. From controlling the economy, controlling law, to brainwashing us, there's so many theories of Jews today.

I take more appreciation on my act in 2020 mailing a letter to Travis Patron today than I would have in the past. Not that I was just sending a letter because of the hell of it, that was not the case at all. I was sending this letter because I was shocked and terrified he was getting away with sharing such opinions. I realized it was risky, but I was brave, I thought what is there to lose? I thought, people saw the Holocaust and did nothing to stop it, am I going to be like one of those people and let this hatred continue? I understood that I may not make an impact, but if I can stand up against it and being a young person like myself, he may find influence in it to see the truth.. that it was wrong what he was voicing (P.S: was not the case :/ ). Therefore, today I will be showing the efforts of 2020 me, to speak up against antisemitism, though I did not have a whole lot of experience with studying it as I do today. Nevertheless, the effort was huge.

Please understand that Patron's approach is antisemitic, racist, full of denial and based upon many facts that are not truthful. You will see so in his response to my letter. The Canadian Nationalist Party and Travis Patron ARE Neo-Nazis, they ARE antisemitic, and the Roman Salute CAN easily (in right matter) be confused with the Nazi Salute, despite what he states. I am sharing this conversation because I think it's important to understand that there are such people like Travis Patron that exist today. It's alarming, therefore people must seen the truth for what it is.

" The RCMP launched a hate crime investigation against Patron after Ottawa-based human rights lawyer Richard Warman filed a formal criminal complaint about a video Patron uploaded to YouTube warning of a "parasitic tribe" controlling Canadian institutions and calling for their permanent removal from Canada."

Keep in mind, since this incident for which he has served jail time as it being a hate crime, he has followed a list of other criminal activities. Such as, impersonation, harassment and assult, and following hate crimes.

"A complaint was filed with the RCMP against Patron by the Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center on July 15, 2020. In their complaint they claim that a post on the party's Facebook page constitutes hate speech. The RCMP had investigated the party in 2019 for a similar claim. Patron was arrested by the RCMP and charged with wilful promotion of hate on February 17, 2021, in connection to the complaint. On October 20, 2022, Patron was sentenced to one year in jail for willfully promoting hatred against Jewish people and ordered to refrain from posting about them for a year after the sentence ends.

Gus Stefanis assumed leadership of the party on August 27, 2021. The CNP was deregistered by Elections Canada on March 31, 2022, due to its failure to maintain an active party membership of at least 250."

The Letter

THIS IS SHARED, SHOWN, AND EXPLAINED STRICTLY FOR EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES - NOTHING ELSE.

Dear Travis Patron,

My name is Emily Praill. A graduate at ......... in Ontario, Canada. My post secondary plans consisting of hopefully attending ...... to study the Third Reich and the Holocaust. I've spent every morning and evening since my 3rd year in highschool reading through articles and have become very aware of the terrifying rise of antisemitism. On Monday, July 13th, 2020, I came across an eye opening article about a Canadian far-right politican calling for a removal of all Jews from Canada. It has left me and thousands of others disgusted and appalled.

The name of this very disrespectful founder and leader of the Neo-Nazi Canadian Nationalist Party being yourself. Mr. Patron, you not only thought it was acceptable to make such calls on a flyer for simply being an rightly innocent cultural community in our country, but also took it a step further and decided to call Jewish people "liars and deceivers" and a "tribe of parasites". As you clearly do not understand, the Jews were a main target in the the Holocaust which was a systematic, state-sponsored persecution and murder of six million Jews by the Nazi regime along with its allies and collaborators. Now to mark the Jews as a group of liars and deceivers that need to be removed from Canada is obnoxious. As a Canadian citizen since birth, this leaves me absolutely speechless, it's unutterable. I would never expect a party leader in my country to bash such innocent people who have been through far tougher times than you have surely.

"What we need to do, perhaps more than anything, is remove these people, once and for all, from our country.", you say in your flyer. Would you kindly give me a valid reason why. Why you are so antisemitic? Do you perhaps know exactly what your choice of words may be doing to our society and future generations? How it is impacting Jewish to this day since the 70 C.E.. It’s people like yourself, that cause antisemites. You also decided to share with us the “signs and symptoms” of a Jewish person, for I must say is VERY racist; with the letter displaying the proper way to do a Roman salute – which can be easily construed as a Nazi salute.

You additionally add, “The people we speak of are not truly ‘Jews’. They are liars and deceivers attempting to shield themselves from criticism using a false identity. Let us be aware and expose them for they are: a tribe of parasites.”. May I just say, you very bluntly pointed out, that the Jewish are not “truly” Jewish, that they are hiding from hate using a “false identity”. How on Earth would you know what a “true” Jewish person is? From my research you are not Jewish, you, Mr. Patron, are Canadian. For you to call out a religion and to speak such terrible words should be none of your business. These people have just as much right as I do to live in the land of “freedom”. You add, nearer to the end of your statement that we should be aware and expose them for who they are, parasites. But I can’t understand for any other reason why you think this but to relate this only to the Holocaust (although you never made direct mention to it).

For your information, to make the population aware about how dangerous and non-trustly worthy the Jewish are is exactly what Adolf Hitler did. He wanted to let the entire continent of Europe (and the rest of the World) know how harmful and different the Jewish were from your ordinary German. He did this by protesting aggressively against the Jewish in his several rallies. Just like you are doing, but instead in a campaign like, flyer to someone in the location of Saskatchewan. To add further, you also discuss "It's their world, and we're just a number to them. If they had their way, our entire way of life would be eradicated. They don't like us. In fact, they despise us because of what we are. They cannot coexist with it.". Which once again Mr. Patron, is like words of what Adolf Hitler told all of Germany.

Many others, and myself would suppose that as a nationalist party like yours, why would you command and encourage such things like hate and removal of Jews? Antisemitism is not an unknown discrimination in our society anymore, it has been said by many Holocaust survivors, embassies and organizations like Auschwitz Memorium, that I’m hopeful you’ve witnessed worry from, that during this years 75th year anniversary since Auschwitz was liberated that antisemitism is on a terrying rise with many believing for what happened to the six million Jews was deserved or that it just simply never occured. As you may or may not know, the Holocaust is the best documented genocide in history. Meaning further on, deniers have absolutely no confirmed evidence of what they presume is true.

In case it has escaped you, our country, Canada, was impacted in many ways by the tragedy of the Holocaust. Canada's restrictive immigration policies at the time largely closed the door on Jews seeking to flee Europe. This included 937 Jewish passengers of the M.S. St. Louis, who were refused entry into Canada, and many subsequently died in the Holocaust. As a result of Canada's wartime policies, nearly 2,300 men were interned as "enemy aliens" in camps across Canada between 1940 and 1943. These were mostly Jewish refugees from Austria and Germany. The Canadian experience of the Holocaust was also one of resilience and hope. In April 1945, Canadian forces liberated the Westerbork Transit Camp in the Netherlands, including 900 Dutch Jews who were still interned there. As a nation, Canada has also been profoundly shaped by approximately 40,000 Holocaust survivors, who resettled across the country after the war. Today, Canadians remember the Holocaust, commemorate its victims, and renew the commitment to fight against racism, discrimination and antisemitism. Would you now be proud of your so-called warning to not only Saskatchewan but all of Canada and practically the entire population?

For your party and self to take a step of outrageous hate towards a cultural community in our own country, takes great gut, but to also not expect backlash is another. You made your party instead look much like a mocking of the totalitarian dictator of the 20th century, and you seemed very proud to announce this to our nation. Antisemitism is never and will never be something to be proud about. It’s in fact very disgusting and sad your party decides to think that way.

Thank you for taking your time to read my letter. I’m looking forward to your reading your response on why you thought this flyer was really so acceptable.

Sincerely, Emily Praill

His Response:

Emily,

Thank you for reaching out to us here at the Canadian Nationalist Party and expressing your concern with some of our positions as a political movement in your country. It is encouraging to see that there are young people such as yourself willing to have a conversation even if, at first glance, it may seem that the gap of mutal understanding is wide.

Firstly, understand the people we are describing are not truly who they claim to be. In order for any political movement to succeed it must both identify what/who it represents and also what/who it opposes. In our case, WE OPPOSE DECEPTION. The people we speak of are not truly 'Jews', neither are they of semetic origin. Therefore, to call us 'antisemitic' is inaccurate as those we are describing are not semetic people. What this political collective do in practice, is attempt to hide themselves from criticism by using a false identity. They are imposters and decievers who prey on our ignorance of these facts.

Jesus of Nazareth was a Jew. He was from the Israelite tribe of Judeau. The people who we speak of are not from this tribe nor any of the other so-called "lost tribes of Israel".

As the bible states:

For he is not a Jew, which is one outwardly; neither is that circumcision, which is outward in the flesh: But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God.

Romans 2:28,29

We do not accept the label "neo-Nazi" as we are not German National Socialists to begin with - the former of which is an abbreviation of the later.

We are Canadian Nationalists - in that we advocate for the nationhood of our country. We seek a government that represents European-descended Canadians as a unique ethnic group. Our political action is directed toward the improvement of social and economic conditions of an ethnocentric Canada and country of citizens united by a national identity.

As for the so-called 'Roman salute', we do indeed know that this type of salute was in widespread use during the height of the Roman Empire. Some onlookers may get the wrong impression about such a gesture and consider it an endorsement of National Socialist Germany - this is not necessarily so. We not need to discard our history and heritage entirely for the sake of appeasement. Understand that appeasement is almost a losing strategy.

As for your studies about the labour camps that we established during the period leading up to 1945, many understand that many of the facts of this period are still a point of contentious debate, and that they were brought forward during a time when war propaganda was being disseminated. One important point to remember is that history is written by the victor.

It is interesting to me that there are countries in the world today (especially in Europe) that if you take an academically-honest approach to topics such as this, and question the offical narrative, you can be held criminally liable. And on this point Ms. Praill, as a post-secondary graduate yourself, I will simply ask:

what truth fears investigation?
